Omron TL-Q5MC1 3d model

Jon Neal

I recently discovered a fantastic parametric modeling program called SolveSpace. It is super lightweight, cross platform, and open source all of which add up to a great program. Last week at the local makerspace there was a small accident with our large laser cutter. About a year ago I did some work to the laser to replace the rather bad height touch zeroing sensor on the laser with a nicer non contact sensor (the Omron[...]

Error in linear tech design note 361

Jon Neal

While bringing up a board with Power over Ethernet on it for an RFID/NFC project I came upon an issue with linear tech design note 361. It is a really interesting design which uses the LTC4267. The LTC4267 is a Power over Ethernet interface and a 300kHz dc-dc converter in one package. It is quite a nice chip if a little expensive, like most LT chips. The design note also includes a battery circuit[...]

Making an Antenna in KiCad

Jon Neal

I recently had to make an antenna in KiCad for an RFID/NFC circuit board I am designing. The chip I am using is the ST Micro CR95HF which so far seems to be pretty nice (cheap and well documented). ST Micro has an app note (AN3344) which handily goes through all of the steps required to design the antenna for this chip and they even provide a calculator for different antenna designs! Wrong way[...]
